University’s statement on poster campaign

People have expressed concern about a recent poster campaign involving equity and privilege.

The University of Ontario Institute of Technology encourages discourse around society’s most pressing issues.

The topic of privilege is crucial for understanding why we all bring a different lens to our worldview. If discussions of privilege become uncomfortable for individuals who take the time to self-reflect, we are doing our jobs effectively as educators. The possibility that conversations may be difficult should never be a reason to avoid them. That said, the nuances and context around challenging conversations can be difficult to display in a poster.

The university is committed to open conversations where opposing views can be shared respectfully in a safe environment.
