Online scam of the week: Coronavirus phishing attacks

Cybercriminals are taking advantage of people’s fears over the new coronavirus by sending out phishing emails that look like they are from health officials or agencies such as the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

These emails act as ‘clickbait’, encouraging you to open links or PDF attachments that claim to provide more information, but are actually malicious. Opening these links and attachments could launch malware that will infect your computer or put your personal information at risk.

Always remember: Do not click on a link or download an attachment in an email you were not expecting to receive. on the university’s Information Technology Services website.
