Donate your unused smartphone to help someone with sight loss
Â鶹´«Ã½ is proud to participate in Phone it Forward, a program. The program provides smartphones loaded with accessible apps to individuals who are blind or partially sighted. Beginning Monday, November 22, unused smartphones can be dropped off at an Â鶹´«Ã½ Library circulation desk.
The smartphones provided through CNIB’s program allow people who are blind or partially sighted to:
- Access emergency assistance from sighted volunteers.
- Read prescription labels and take medication safely.
- Recognize the faces of loved ones.
- Travel safely alone using GPS.
- Use built-in voice-over technology, which reads aloud everything that appears on a phone’s screen.
Donate your unused smartphone in three easy steps:
- Complete the and bring it with you to donate your phone. The Library will have printed copies available.
- Bring your used smartphone and signed donation agreement to a circulation desk employee during Library operating hours at the north or downtown Oshawa campus location.
- Receive a from CNIB after they have collected the phones and assessed their value.
Note: The Library will keep all donated phones in a secure area until CNIB collects them.
