'Let’s Play' Faculty Learning Community seeking new members

Â鶹´«Ã½’s ‘Let’s Play’ Faculty Learning Community (FLC) seeks members for the upcoming academic year.

FLCs are specifically structured learning communities of faculty and staff in higher education that includes the goals of:

  • Building community
  • Engaging in scholarly practice
  • Developing the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL)

The university’s ‘Let’s Play’ FLC employs tabletop games as a medium for educators to re-experience the role of the learner, to revisit their teaching methods to better support the needs of our students. Note: The model does not focus on how to incorporate games in the classroom; it uses games to experience and explore teaching and learning questions.

The Let’s Play FLC is looking for passionate educators interested in continuous improvement in their teaching, as well as those who are looking for like-minded individuals to discuss ongoing pedagogical innovations. All faculty at Â鶹´«Ã½ University are eligible to join the FLC, provided they are scheduled to instruct at least one class in each of the Fall and Winter semesters of the 2024-2025 academic year.

FLC structure:

  • The community will consist of 12 members, including the facilitator(s). This is an ideal size for FLCs, and also works well for the specific gmes they will be playing.
  • There will be 10 two-hour workshops throughout the year (five per semester) where participants will engage in tabletop games, selected for specific topics for each session, followed by discussion of the relevant experiences. Each session will include refreshments for all participants.
  • Each participant will conduct a small teaching-innovation project in one of their winter classes. The Let’s Play FLC will prepare and revise as a group during the all, and implement the innovations, collecting appropriate data, in the winter.
  • Participants will receive $300 in professional development funds for participating, which can be used to further your investment in student learning, or to support your project, should you require funding to implement it.

If you are interested in joining our FLC, please fill out the no later than Friday, August 2.

  • Please see (and distribute to your peers) the for additional details.
