Reminders for the holiday season from the Office of Risk Management
As we approach the holiday and winter season, the Office of Risk Management (ORM) is sharing safety guidelines for all university community members. The guidelines can also be found on the ORM website.
Many people love to decorate their workspaces to fit the holiday season. The ORM encourages university members to celebrate safely and respectfully during any holidays/celebrations while on campus. Always observe safety first when decorating for the holidays or any celebration.

While many of us wish we could be somewhere warmer, in Oshawa it’s all about the snow and cold. ORM understands that your office and/or workspace can get a little cold. While space heaters may be viewed as a temporary solution, they can be inefficient and may pose a severe fire hazard in the workplace when misused. Space heaters are one of the leading causes of fires and carbon monoxide exposures, causing about a third of all structural fires.
- See the ORM’s Guidelines for Portable Space Heaters on Campus for general information on portable space heaters, and to learn more about how to choose and properly place them in your work area.
