Leadership and Strategy for Boards and Staff

Overview:

Expand your understanding of leadership within the not-for-profit sector with the Leadership and Strategy for Boards and Staff course. Understand various models of governance with the not-for-profit sector and best practices for risk management to incorporate in your organization's structure. Also learn about the roles of leadership, advocacy and government relationships to help your organization achieve success.

This course applies to the Not-for-Profit Leadership Certificate Program.

  • Executives, CEOs, managers and supervisors of not-for-profit organizations;
  • Operations managers and strategic planners of not-for-profit organizations; and
  • Board members, volunteers and leaders of not-for-profit organizations.

What you'll learn:

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Understand various models of governance in not-for-profit organizations;
  • Understand risk management and leadership and their roles within not-for-profit organizations; and
  • Understand the role and importance of advocacy and government relations to not-for-profit organizations.

Current or previous work and/or volunteer experience in the not-for-profit sector is recommended.

Online meeting times

This program has online meeting times. This means you must attend the virtual class at the specified date and time (see the Schedule tab).

Google Meet or Kaltura Virtual Classroom (through Catalog) will be used for online delivery of this program to support interaction and engagement.

This course may include, but is not limited to:

  • Content presentations and/or videos;
  • Hands-on exercises;
  • Case discussions and simulations;
  • Group and individual work (assignments/quizzes);
  • Concept and topic discussions; and
  • Topic reflections.

Online learning requirements:

  • Computer or device with internet access
  • Stable internet or data connection
  • Microphone
  • Webcam*
  • Audio device (examples: speakers, headphones/earbuds, headset)

*Webcam is preferred but not required.
