Managing Finance and Report Requirements

Overview:

Deepen your understanding of accounting and taxation processes for not-for-profit organizations with the Managing Finance and Report Requirements course. Learn about the differences in the application of accounting and taxation between for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and accounting and taxation best practices for your not-for-profit. This course will help you become more confident in your understanding and application of accounting and taxation practices for not-for-profit organizations.

This course applies to the Not-for-Profit Leadership Certificate Program.

Who should attend?

You may use the knowledge and skills developed through this program to prepare you for financial tasks and leadership in the not-for-profit (NFP) sector, such as:

  • Executives, specifically CEOs, CFOs and accounting managers for not-for-profit organizations;
  • Board members, specifically treasurers, of not-for-profit organizations;
  • Those responsible for one or more budgets for not-for-profit organizations; and
  • Anyone looking to learn more about finance and reports for not-for-profit organizations.

What you'll learn:

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Understand the types of accounting that exist for not-for profit organizations;
  • Understand the differences between for profit and not-for-profit accounting and taxation;
  • Understand the filing requirements for not-for-profit organizations from a taxation and accounting perspective; and
  • Apply best practices for accounting in not-for-profit organizations (e.g. taxation, issuing receipts).

Online meeting times

This course has online meeting times. This means you must attend the virtual class at the specified date and time (see the Schedule tab).

Google Meet or Kaltura Virtual Classroom (through Catalog) will be used for online delivery of this program to support interaction and engagement.

This course may include, but is not limited to:

  • Content presentations and/or videos;
  • Hands-on exercises;
  • Case discussions and simulations;
  • Group and individual work (assignments/quizzes);
  • Concept and topic discussions; and
  • Topic reflections.

  • Computer with internet access
  • Stable internet or data connection
  • Microphone
  • Webcam*
  • Audio device (examples: speakers, headphones/earbuds, headset)

*Webcam is preferred, but not required.
