Overview

Student working in robotics lab. Integrate mechanical, electrical and software engineering, and learn how to produce new devices, consumer products, high-tech automobile systems and robots.

If you're interested in applying to the Mechatronics Engineering program without co-op, apply via the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) using OUAC code DEH.

If you're interested in applying to the Mechatronics Engineering (Co-op) program, apply via OUAC code DCO.

Â鶹´«Ã½ University is one of a handful of universities in Canada that offers a dedicated program in Mechatronics Engineering, which integrates mechanical and electrical systems with real-time control, combining hardware with software to produce new devices such as consumer products, medical devices, high- tech automobile systems and robots.

Our program is fully accredited and provides graduates with the knowledge and skills required to work in high-tech companies requiring the integration of electro-mechanical systems with controls and software, including robotics, automotive, consumer products, and aerospace industries, to name a few.

Foundation year

All engineering students begin with a common foundation year, regardless of the program of study. During the foundation year, you will learn about the various engineering programs available.

Engineering and Management

There is a need for engineers with management skills. Complement the technical studies of your engineering program with business and management courses by pursuing the five-year Bachelor of Engineering and Management (Honours) program.

Women in Engineering

A multi-year support program to help female engineering students explore opportunities and careers, gain experience in the workforce, make a successful transition to a career in engineering and find lifelong success in a professional engineering career.

Women for STEM scholarships available for eligible female students

Learning environment

Students have access to new, modern buildings, libraries and innovative labs, including:

  • Energy Systems and Nuclear Science Research Centre (ERC)
  • Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Engineering Building
  • Robotics and Automation Lab
  • Software and Informatics Research Center (SIRC)
  • Jeffery Boyce Engineering Innovation and Design Studio
  • ACE Facilities

Direct-entry co-op program

This program has a direct-entry co-op option that you can apply for directly on your Ontario Universities Application Centre (OUAC) application.

Our co-op positions are full-time, paid employment opportunities providing students with a steady income stream throughout their studies.

I initially chose Â鶹´«Ã½ because of the small community size as well as the Mechatronics Engineering program, but I quickly came to realize that there were a wide range of other things I could be excited about—community events, sports games and the Ambassador program. Overall, I've been very happy about my experience here and I'm looking forward to an amazing final year. David Akinyemi Bachelor in Engineering (Honours) in Mechatronics Engineering Class of 2022

Admissions

Admissions

Current Ontario secondary school students must complete the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) with six 4U or 4M credits including English (ENG4U) with a minimum grade of 60 per cent, Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), and Physics (SPH4U). In addition, a combined minimum of 70 per cent average in prerequisite math and science courses is required, with no grade below 60 per cent. Applicants with credentials from outside Ontario should visit the Admissions section.

Note: Admission is competitive. The specific average or standing required for admission varies from year to year. Students are selected by taking into consideration a wide range of criteria including school marks, distribution of subjects taken, and performance in subjects relevant to the academic program. Possession of the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance. Preference will be given to applicants with the best qualifications.
